Solar FAQ

Solar panels capture sunlight using photovoltaic (PV) cells made of silicon.
These cells convert sunlight into direct current (DC) electricity.
An inverter transforms DC into alternating current (AC) for home and business use.
Any excess energy can be stored in batteries or sent back to the grid.
This process provides clean, renewable power while reducing electricity costs and emissions.

Solar panels still generate electricity on cloudy or rainy days, though their output is reduced compared to sunny days. Modern panels are designed to capture diffuse light, which filters through clouds. The system's overall energy production will be lower, but it doesn't stop completely.

Solar leases and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) allow you to go solar with little to no upfront cost. In a lease, you pay a fixed monthly rent to the solar company. In a PPA, you pay a fixed rate per kilowatt-hour for the energy the system produces. Both options can lead to immediate savings on your electricity bill.

On average, 1 megawatt (MW) of solar power can supply electricity to approximately 164 to 200 homes. This number can vary based on local sunshine hours and average household electricity consumption.

There are many incentives available, including the federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC), which allows you to deduct a significant portion of the cost from your taxes. Additional state, local, and utility rebates may also be available. It's best to check with a local installer for specific incentives in your area.

As of recent records, some of the largest solar installations in the U.S. are located in California, Nevada, and Arizona, taking advantage of vast desert areas with high solar irradiance. These massive solar farms can generate hundreds of megawatts of clean energy.
